Memphis's Backyard Hibachi Alternative

Hibachi Guru in Memphis brings the full teppanyaki experience to your home, office, or rental across the Memphis metro and into northern Mississippi. Memphis runs on barbecue and we have nothing but respect for the brisket, but for private events the choice tends to be the same handful of Downtown or East Memphis restaurants. We're the other path: a chef, a grill, a 90-minute live performance set up in your Germantown backyard, your Cooper-Young carriage house, your Downtown loft terrace, or a corporate space. The food shows up; the show comes with it; nobody's parking on Beale Street.

Service Area Across the Memphis Metro

Our chefs travel across the full Memphis region. Inside the city we regularly serve Downtown, the Pinch District, South Main, Uptown, Midtown, Cooper-Young, Overton Square, Central Gardens, Chickasaw Gardens, East Memphis, Hein Park, and Harbor Town on Mud Island. East and southeast we cover Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, Cordova, and Lakeland. North we serve Raleigh, Frayser, Millington, and Arlington (TN). Across the state line we cover the DeSoto County, MS area including Olive Branch, Southaven, Hernando, and Horn Lake. We also serve West Memphis, AR and east into Fayette County for larger bookings.

Where Hibachi Works in Memphis

Memphis's housing mix supports a wide variety of hibachi setups. Single-family backyards in Chickasaw Gardens, East Memphis, Germantown, and Collierville are our most common setup, particularly homes with patios, pool decks, or shaded back porches. Midtown and Cooper-Young historic homes with private courtyards or back patios work beautifully; the architecture lends itself to intimate hibachi events. South Main and Downtown lofts with rooftop terraces work for high-rise residents who can confirm open-flame is allowed by their building. Mississippi River-view properties on Mud Island and Harbor Town are favorites for sunset events. For corporate clients we set up at Downtown high-rises, FedEx campus venues, East Memphis office terraces, and the Crosstown Concourse. Short-term rentals across Midtown and Downtown are popular for bachelorette weekends.

Best Memphis Events for Private Hibachi

A few event formats hit especially well in Memphis:

  • Bachelor and bachelorette weekends: anchored Friday or Saturday hibachi at a Midtown or Downtown rental before the Beale Street nights.

  • Wedding rehearsal dinners: especially at Germantown, Chickasaw Gardens, and Central Gardens family homes.

  • Corporate dinners and team events: FedEx, AutoZone, International Paper, and St. Jude all run steady cycles of executive and team gatherings; hibachi at the office or a leadership home is a strong premium alternative.

  • St. Jude fundraising and host-family gatherings: families connected to St. Jude often gather for milestone events; hibachi suits the wide age range typical of these.

  • Memphis in May, BBQ Fest, and Music Fest weekends: out-of-town visitors anchor weekends at rentals; private hibachi is a strong alternative to fighting the festival-week restaurant scene.

  • Milestone birthdays and Mississippi River sunset parties: 30s, 40s, 50s celebrations on Mud Island and at Downtown terraces.

Memphis Seasonality and Outdoor Setup

Memphis's humid subtropical climate gives us a generous outdoor hibachi season. March through November is comfortable outdoors. June through August hits the mid-90s with high humidity; evening start times (7pm or later) and shaded setup are recommended, especially for pool-deck events. December through February still supports outdoor events 50-60% of the time given Memphis's mild winters; the occasional ice storm or cold snap moves things inside, in which case we set up indoors with proper ventilation. Spring storm season runs March through May; we flex bookings around severe-weather days. Late summer and early fall are our favorite shoulder seasons.

Memphis Hibachi FAQ

Do you serve DeSoto County, MS (Olive Branch, Southaven) and West Memphis, AR? Yes. DeSoto County, MS (Olive Branch, Southaven, Hernando, Horn Lake) and West Memphis, AR are part of our standard Memphis service area. Eastern Fayette County and far suburbs are case-by-case based on group size.

Can you set up at a Midtown bungalow or Cooper-Young historic home? Yes. Midtown bungalows and Cooper-Young historic homes are some of our favorite Memphis venues; courtyard and back-patio setups work beautifully. We do need adequate clearance from any historic wood structure for the grill; we will confirm at booking.

What's the minimum booking? A $600 event minimum applies (roughly 10 guests at the standard $60 per adult rate). Smaller parties are welcome; you cover the difference up to the minimum.

What's Included With Every Memphis Booking

Every plate comes with fried rice, hibachi vegetables, a garden salad, and our signature ginger and yum-yum sauces. We accommodate vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, keto, halal, and kosher requests with advance notice.
